building extension near to existing low voltage cable

We have an existing easement on our land for an electricity company to access its low voltage underground power cable. Is there a distance we need to allow between the build of a new extension & the power cable ? & do we need to inform the electricity company who have the easement or will planning permission cover that ?

Planning application will not consider easements - I think you should ask the electricity company about distances. There are minimum distances to sewer pipes that the water utilities publish but none that I know of for electricity.

The easement should specify the clearance required. One we had did. It was 2m either side, reducing to 1m either side at pinch points. They said this was to give enough space to get a JCB in to dig it up, if required.
