wanting to purchase land outside my property

Myself and my parnter have recently bought a house with driveway. To the left of our driveway (also in front of our house) is a small piece of land big enough for a second space, which we have found out belongs out our neigbour. We would like to know how we would go about valuing this small piece of land to buy it from our neigbour.

Without asking a professional body , to me if i wanted to buy it and the neigbour is willing to sell i would just consider their asking price the same as if i was interested in a car for sale. consider what it worth to you in the long term and make an offer that you are happy with if they except then concider the legal costs for the land to be passed over to you, and buy if you are happy with the costs.

Good answer. The value of something like this is as much as someone is willing to pay. If you pay a professional, all you will get is an opinion based on his/her experience of similar situations - and I'll wager that these don't occur too often. As with any negotiation, the key thing is not to appear too keen - the perception of what you are willing to pay might just go up. If he wants you to name your price at the start, try ' oh, a few hundred pounds'. This could mean anything from �200 to �800 - then try and force him to give a figure and negotiate from there.
