i have some land and want to have a tiber framed house built by a firm. what kind of costs are involved for a four bedroom house colin

I can only speak for timber framing here in the U.S., but the costs are nearly double those of a standard "stick" built house. This is due to the extreme hands on labor required. Special tooling is required on the work site (although most of the engineering and special cuts are done at the manufacturer's shop location.) Additionally, the lumber sizes required add substantially to the costs since it is totally non-standard in size(s)...
A friend had a very large (7,000 square feet) log home built, and even though he supplied a great deal of the labor the costs were near 50% more than a standard home. The labor and knowledge to build a log home are similar to those of a timber framed structure...
