We are having cavity wall insulation installed, and have been told that the air bricks (vents) are no longer required. They will be filled in. Apparently these air vents are now considered a risk, as the air flow could assist a fire. Is this true?

ive no idea about that but make sure that you have no old style open flued gas appliances in any room that is going to have the air vent bricked up first as the air vent will be there to feed the burner with oxygen.

Well, if youre going to have the cavity walls filled then you wont need the airbricks as there will be no space between the walls for air to circulate. With this in mind I dont see how they can be a fire risk either. They'll probably remove them or the insulation may come out through them.

can see the logic of it but i have had 2 lots of work done on my house recently and building regs state airbricks/vents to be fitted, in one case the building inspector made the builder replace a couple of bricks with vents after the work had been completed !!

Thanks for your answers. I got confused between air bricks and air vents (inside and outside wall). I checked with the installer and air bricks will not be necessary, they will be blocked up, as the cavity wall be filled. Air vent will be kept clear as this allows air to pass through into lounge. (No mention of fire risk!)

If you have a timber floor,make sure the underfloor cavity airbricks are kept
