I would like to find out in particular when the house was sold

Hi Cazzz..............................The Land Registry's site is very good for this. I think it costs about three pounds to download a copy of the Title Deed - but it's no use to you if the house has changed hands within the last ten years though - it'll just give info on the present owner.
If there are other associated docs available, they might tell you if there are any easements or covenants relating to a previous owner.

It is possible to get copies of historical official copy entries depending on when the property was registered at the Land Registry.

You could ring the local Land Registry for the property and see if you can get someone helpful who may be able to give you an idea as to what info for what date to ask for.

You can find the local office here...
