Does anyone know how these Government Deposit Schemes work for deposits paid by private tenants?
I have these two little scroats living in a property, they have a Guarantor and have been a pain since they moved in 6 months ago. They owe 190 in partial unpaid rent from the second month of their tenancy and have failed to pay this month's rent, as they are moving out next weekend.
Where do I stand, regarding getting paid the rent I'm owed? How will the Lettings Agency recoup my money? It seems these schemes were set up to benefit and protect the tenant and not the Landlord.
You are referring to the Tenant Deposit Protection scheme - in existence since April 2007. It's scope was never intended to be of help to landlords, but to help tenants whose landlords unreasonably deducted part of the deposit at the end of the tenancy.
You should presumably have about six weeks deposit held in the scheme, which you will be able to use to offset the shortfall. May not cover it all - you will have to take them to court to get the rest.
