re-sign fees
i have recently been charged a re-sign fee of �50 the is nothing in my old contract mentioning this fee and there is nothing in the new contract to say wot it is or wether i have to keep paying this fee is this legal and do i have to pay it ?

I presume this is a tennancy agreement?
I've rented many properties and have never heard of this!?
I would contact citizens advice as maybe they do have the right to do it, but like say I've never heard of it.
If citizens advice say ok, then I would maybe say can't afford it and negotiate a bit lower. Sounds liek an easy way to get more moeny off you!

They are becoming more common especially by agencies looking to make some extra money by way of admin fees.
It's a weigh up as to the certainty you want really. You can hold over on the tenancy, ie keep going from month to month on the same terms or negotiate a new fixed contract for another certain term where you are contracted in until the end of that term.
My old agents offered this when our initial 6 month term was up but we opted to hold over so we could leave when we wanted subject to the notice period and weren't tied in for say another 6 months.
I guess it works both ways, you only have to be given say a months notice to leave as well when holding over.
