I have just gone on a water meter and was thinking of getting an in-cistern device. Either a hippo or other device would do. The bathroom was installed in 2004 and according so according to Thames Water, I don`t need anything at all. My sister has new bathrooms in her house and she uses water saving devices in her cisterns. Would it matter if I put one in? The hippo saves up to 2.5 ltrs and the non-specified water saving device saves 1 ltr per flush.

Welsh I must write down your mantra regarding the yellow let it mellow etc. I`m not here at home half the time and I don`t see why I should pay the same in water rates as the family of four, two doors away. I know I need water for the garden but I`m hopeless at looking after it anyway. I think I`ll probably spend about £150 per year in water rates now as opposed to £350. My only problem now is what to spend the difference on. How many bottles of Moet et Chandon can you get for 200 quid?

Sorry, welsh, that remark was directed at Eddie. I seem to have awakened the obsession that men have with their bowells!
LOL Ediie, I've heard that one before, saves on loo paper too.... seriously 237SJ, I bath, I used the washing machine 4 or 5 times a week, I have a small dishwasher, we water the garden sometimes..... but I also now have 2 water butts so rarely get the hose out except in high summer. We same a lot of water for the garden by tapping into the down pipes at front and back of the house. We're not wasteful but we're not mean with water either, our bills are less than a third of what they used to be.
SJ, I thought that!..................no worries!....

Boxtops I only use the washing machine about 1.5 times a week (just to break it down precisely) so I`m looking forward to saving a few quid.
People who get obsessed with the price of water usually stink... just like their unflushed toilets.
No alav, you are so wrong!..............we clean our toilets too!.................
I'll bet your's has a permanent yellow tinge..!
that's tannin, alavahalf - too much tea (or John Smith's, one of the two)

alav, not way!.............my toilet is always sparking clean, ever heard of domestos 24 hour bleach?......use it daily!.....a clean toilet is a must!..........
Older than that, eddie - just found this on the interweb

The phrase 'If it's Yellow, let it Mellow' was actually adopted by California Governor/Well-known spacecase Jerry Brown in his own inimitable fashion in order to promote water conservation in the 1970s. His opponents, naturally, began to chant the complete slogan in order to express their opinion of his administration.
I can't use Domestos in a loo that the cat drinks out of....
I have always wondered why a number two is usually brown, why not pink, blue or green?.

Just asking that's all?
