thanx Trim - I thought of you when I found this as it has a dragon (Wales?) Its silver btw & miss shapen. It also has V11 on it. Will dig for some more.

I took about 20 pics to get those 2...never thought of scanning - will have a go, ta
Might alos help if you could give an idea of its size - put a 2p next to it in a photo.
The second pic has an XII which would indicate a shilling like this coin...

The six-pointed star mint mark at the top (between REX and CAROLVS) seems to indicate a 1641 date for this Charles I shilling...

gawd....the builders are scanning the land with metal detectors & digging holes all over - the pond is 4gotten :(
keep an eye on the builders if they are looking for more of these coins.........

boxy: I aint digging for horseshoes.
No it isn't - the English groat is fourpence (fuppence) only, whereas your Charles I shilling (identical to the ones shown in my previous links) was worth twelve pence and is why there is XII (12) stamped upon it.
If you have no luck here, take it to your nearest museum and ask them to pass it to the local portable antiquities officer. They may need to hang on to it for a few weeks but you'll get accurate information back.
