My kitchen tap is obviously 'furred up' with calcium deposits, as it doesn't pour properly and sprays water all over the place, which is extremely annoying, as it always wets my sleeve and the splashback. I have tried squirting stuff up it and also tying a plastic bag under it with descaler and leaving it to soak (various varieties) and also poking it as far as I can go with a screwdriver, but nothing works. Help - any tips please?

I can only speak to taps here in the U.S., but most have a threaded screen that screws on the end of the faucet. If yours has one and if you poked a screwdriver up into the faucet, it's obviously been destroyed.  They can be replaced from any DIY.  Check to see if yours has one.  Otherwise, a total replacement of the fauce may be necessary...
If viakal or one of the industrial strength de-calcifier thingymajigs don't work, then it might be time to replace that crusty old tap.

Clanad - We don't have threaded screens on our taps, but thanks anyway ...

Octavius - I think you're right - as nothing like Viakal etc.. works, looks like a new tap!

Thank you both.

especially as a pair of taps should cost no more than 10
.40 (just bought a pair)
