Daffodils that wont flower

We have a patch of daffodil plants that sprout every year but do not flower. They look small and weak and have no flower heads. What could be the problem and what can i add to the soil to make them flower?

Allow the leaves to die back naturally - don't cut them off.  Sometimes if you cut the leaves off too soon they won't flower the following year.

Of course it could just be a bad batch of bulbs in which case you may need to dig them up and replace them with new bulbs.

If they've been in place for a number of years you will benefit by dividing them.  Wait until the leaves begin to yellow before separating the bulbs and bulbettes.  This should be done each 3 to 4 years. Additionally, if the area experienced drought conditions during the growing season last year, they won't do well the suceeding year.  In the spring assure they recieve at least an inch of water dueing the growing/blooming season.  One last thing, try fertilizing just as they come out of the ground.  A bone meal/manure mix seems to work well...
