Never mind, you are here now!
The best option would be to go to Staples or somewhere similar and buy a small shredder, they are quite cheap, and do it yourself. We have a commercial shredding arrangement at work but they charge £5 a bag, it's not cheap, and for small quantities it could be more. If you shred it yourselves then you know it is safely destroyed and you can put it in the paper bin for the dustmen.

If you've got stacks of it, try a local confidential Waste company who will leave you a sack to fill up and collect it from you sealed. It will cost you £7 to £10 but saves a lot of shredding.
If you do shred it, check which bin it goes in as we're not allowed to put it in our recycling bin here. They say its too light and we should either compost it or put it in the normal bin.
Not a pleasent job for you both, you have my sympathies. Look after each other.

I can recommend one of these: http://www.argos.co.u...chtext%3ESHREDDER.htm
Up to 5 sheets of A4 at a time, doesn't have a problem with staples, also shreds credit cards.
Shred every single piece of paper which leaves your house and then recycle.
