Its peeing down, no water tank in the loft. Could be a ridge tile as its in centre of room, what should I do now?
Can you safely get into the loft to have a closer look around?
you have to be really careful with electrics and water, should you not trip the switch attached to light if you can not stop water?

Hi Scotman, no I can't get into the loft. I have two entrances but the one above the lounge is far too small Its a very old property 1600's . i've tried the other one but can't get through to the lounge. I think origionally it would have been three very small cottages.

i've just turned the lights off at the fuse box (two ring mains fortunatly) will that be safer?
If you are sure you have isolated the lights and there is no sign of water coming in other than at the light fitting you may just have to wait it out till morning then contact a builder to check roof. You will need to get electrics checked as well now that they have been wet.
Sorry I can't offer more help without knowing what is happening in the loft.

Chaffinch, can't offer any practical advice other than what you have already done. Is the water dripping in or a steady stream?

I just hope everything turns out well and not too expensive xx
Question Author
Just dripping alba, fortunatly slowing now as the rains easing for the time being.
remember to contact insurance. You might get something depending on what is actually wrong but don't get your hopes up. Wear and tear.
