Help needed....

Help...tis bin day tomorrow and its awfully windy, anyone know of how i can keep my wheelie bin lid shut - as the wind will just blow the lid open and the contents will be strewn everywhere...i see it happen all the time if its a windy day....

dont have a brick...i think looking at it i need to make holes - where the lid rests on the front part of the bin and thread some bale twine through to secure the lid perhaps but no idea what i can use to make the holes with....

turn it around so wind is comiing from back (hinged) part of bin. FYI some councils fine households whose bin lids do not close fully on account that they attract vermin

Good idea Purple but if your bin men are as lazy as ours, they'll just walk past it and leave it full!

also, as you do not actually own the bin to make holes would be seen as vandalism. Have you thought of putting the bin on its side? If you have it so the the lid opening is facing down this could potentially solve your problem. Incidentally, if all your waste was wrapped in bags it would be less likely to fly about in the first place.

HOW ABOUT USING ONE OF THOSE BUNGY ROPES ( THE STRONG ELASTIC STRETCHY ROPES WITH HOOKS EACH END ).THEY CAN BE HOOKED OVER THE LID OF THE BIN TO KEEP IT SHUT. HOPE THIS HELPS, IT WORKS FOR MY DAUGHTERS BINS.

Why don't you put the rubbish in a tied bin liner before you put it in the wheelie bin then it wont matter if the lid lifts in the wind.

"dont have a brick" No, maybe not, but I'm sure, if you look around your local area, you'll find a brick lying around somewhere, or a rock or large stone or piece of paving slab.

Or put your rubbish in sacks, as has already been said. It'll stop the bin getting smelly and attracting flies and vermin.

what about these bungee rope things. But then again the bin men might not have time to take it off ( or health and safety reasons ) before emptying it and you will be left without it being emptied. I use one to hold my bin to the fence when empty as it blows away otherwise

Our company banned the use of bungee cords after an employee nearly lost an eye. Councils might not like them either!

Would your binmen open it if it was fixed shut with cord? Mine wouldn't.... we just put a wheelybin liner in it, then you can tie a knot in the bag to stop stuff falling out.
