We are having a problem with flies in the house

Have got Raid fly spray but must admit it does choke you a bit, and doesn't really get rid of them. If we have door open of course more come in, but you
can't keep it closed in this weather. Is using fly paper any good, otherwise it just means getting more of the wretched things swishing around.

We get about 1 fly every 2 days. Flies need to drink and if you don't leave exposed water for them to drink they will either die or fly away.(stop dripping taps, mop up water left in sinks showers and baths etc.)
Id say try get hold of some Farm products like Fly string, It's isn't cheap though but I worked on a pig farm for 6 years and It was the most effective way to catch flys. a roll of realy gooey sticky string that you attach from one side of the wall to the other and flys are attracted to landing on the white string but cant fly back off it.soon it is black with flys and you take it down (with gloves on as it dont come off your hand too easy the glue) and put up a fresh strip. Im sure they must be cheaper places to get it from than this link but it's just to show you an example what you get. http://www.fearing.co...y-string/Default.aspx
thank you, no dripping taps, but awkward windows, will look for fly paper, not just blue bottles but these blasted diddy things, you see them, but gone in a flash, i have to do something because i can't leave anything out, no food obviously, and one other thing, i bought some cherries a while back, and don't know why, but after a day they were surrounded by these teeny insects, i haven't bought cherries since because of it.
The teenie weenie flies are fruit flies. They arrive the minute the fruit is ripe.
Try keeping fruit in the fridge at this time of year and remove it as you want it or a little in advance to bring it back to room temperature.
I always find they are especially fond of the expensive fruit and are as uninterested in the oranges as I am!

Yes, the other other posters are correct in saying fly paper is good for catching flies. You can get some with pictures of flies on it, and this seems to do the trick.
Would a wasp trap also work? A jar with jam in it, and some cling film with a hole in it for the flies (and wasps) to fall in, but not exit?
Hope this helps.

I had a problem with them after they found my neighbour but one dead in his home (police broke in and found him), he had been there a good few weeks and I seemed to get quite a few flies after that. I ended up stalking them with spray during the day when I could have the windows open and get the cats out to let it clear. I hate killing things but I just had to stop the problem escalating and it was awful thinking where they'd probably come from!
Truthfully i think its the neighbours, the food they cook would make you feel rather queasy, the smell like dead animals, perhaps its that.
Fly paper it is, you can't leave stuff around i know, that does attract all manner of creepy crawlies. A bead curtain good idea, will look around in the week. do you think the flies recognise themselves if its fly paper with flies on it, thats so funny.

Potted Basil seems to work in the distraction of flies indoors.

update, have bought fly paper, went to three shops before found some. First cheap shop didn't have any, second, pound shop, asked three staff, none could understand what i was asking for, as their command of English was almost non existent, a common irritating problem, then Robert Dyas, success, so i will give it a go.
I am with cazzz on this one.
I couldn't abide a strip of sticky paper hanging up in the kitchen, or any other room, with lots of flies stuck to it by their feet and just waiting to die. I would much prefer to use a fly spray to kill them there and then; if they refused to leave via all available exits.

Anyone into incinerating flies should consider the following which appears to be reasonably priced:-
