When you see the size of a split ring as 12mm e.g., what is this size referring to? Is it the diameter or radius - or something completely different!
Would REALLY appreciate an answer ASAP, as trying to finish a project and need to order the correct size rings!
Cheers

Hmmm.... though I think trim might have meant a circlip.

There is a split ring size table here..

http://www.berkeleypo...dware/splitrings.html
Circlips are sized on the shaft OD or ID they fit to (whether internal or external circlips)
Split ring on ID (like tubing)

Ask a teckie ; )

Ah - that'll be it then - sorry trim, it just didn't make sense to my question, as a split ring is for hanging things on, not fitting things in.. no need to be so sensitive - it wasn't meant to be fascetious! I mean a ring like you hang keys on.. a split ring

Thanks chuck, I looked at that one earlier, but it doesn't give the ring size in mm's. I'm looking at rings to buy on eBay, but they only give the mm sizing too! The size I want it 25mm diameter according to the one I have, but as they don't state whether it's measured by diameter or radius (or anything else for that matter), then I can't go ahead and buy them! It's SO frustrating..
25mm is near as damn it to 1 inch so a 1inch ring would be the closest.

I know chuck, but it doesn't say if the measurement they give IS the diameter.. that's the whole point! If I knew this, then I could go ahead.. for instance, some of them are stated as being 7mm - now if that's the diameter, then it's one heck of a tiny ring, so I'm thinking that maybe it's the circumference and NOT the diameter they're quoting - do you understand my problem? I think I'm just gonna go ahead and order the biggest they've got and go by that! lol

they will be measured on the outside edge diameter, and 7mm isn't that small.

the ones I just linked to are probably 1inch rings anyhow and just being sold as 25mm (1inch is 24.54mm)

DOH - I've looked further down the page and you're right, they DO explain the sizes! Sorry pal - and you're a darlin' for finding those on eBay for me. I am forever in your debt! Mwahh!

Can't help thinking that manufactures might not be too picky over the accuracy of their stated sizes. Ever compared the measurement of a woodscrew against its stated length? ''Approximately'' is the missing keyword!
