I Have one or two ripened tomatoes in rthe greenhouse this year that are "shrivelling-up" before i get round to picking them. Never had this problem before. Is it not enough water or what?

Sounds like not enough water - tomatoes are very thirsty little fellows.

If you see the leaves drooping then make sure you water well. It's best to pick the tomatoes off when they are ready,if you keep them on they do shrivel up and rot.

agree with the previous posts - toms need regular feeding once the fruit has set and regular watering too but not over the leaves.

Yer how many people actualy water the plant rather than the ground beneath it! Then they wonder why their leaves are all burnt and shriveled up by the heat of the sun boiling the water drops on the leaves.

ravid - agree the leaves need to be taken care of but imo that's best taken care of with spritzing the air in the green house rather than sloshing water over the plant. For those outside I spray with a spray bottle but definitely do the main watering from ground level. take your point though

I realise that toms. need loads of water once they start to fruit.==In grow bags, what would be the result of over-watering(i.e. pouring water into my sunken pots until the top of the bag feels moist?)

they may 'damp off' ie wilt, rot and not give you a crop
