I know some people are just naturally lazy but why is it that some people seem to think there is nothing wrong in sitting on their a**e when others around them are doing the chores which they should also be helping with to do their fair share.

Example - I share a house with 2 others.  Last sunday myself and one of the others was cleaning the house and then spent the afternoon in the garden, weeding, cutting the grass etc. and enjoying the sunshine.  The member of the household spent the entire day lying on the sofa watching television with the curtains closed while we hoovered and dusted around her.  In the 2 and a half years I have lived with this person I have seen her hoover once and she has never lifted a finger in the garden.  She appears to think such menial work is beneath her or something.

Maybe, just maybe she doesn't realise that you want her to do more.  She prob thinks that you two enjoy it.  All sit and and pleasantly discuss a rota.

Believe me she knows - we've asked her politely to help on more than one occassion and she always says she's too busy(!) and that she'll do it next time (she never does).  We've tried leaving everything for weeks on end to see if she eventually gets sick of the mess and does it but she doesn't seem to even notice it.  And we've tried having a rota but she just never (ever) did what she was supposed to.
tell her if she doesn't help you'll charge her for doing her share of the work, alternatively tell her you'll throw her out the house.
Sounds like my teenage daughter - a complete mess.  Kick her out, you can certainly get a cleaner housemate than her (she?)
Tell her you will start charging her for her share of the work you are doing - I bet you won't see her botty for dust! Lazy moo!
chuck the contents of the hoover bag, all her dirty laundry and any dirty dishes on her bed and see how she likes it.
A size ten up the backside should do the trick, or take the plug off the cable for the TV. She's so lazy that I doubt she would be able to put it back on. I don't know why you give her houseroom.

I used to share a house with 3 others, and there was a chap who used to be like that. For the first few weeks, the other two and I used to cook dinner for all of us, and this chap would have dinner and that was it - not shop for the food, pay for it or cook it!!

Neither did he do any cleaning. Finally, one lady told him that his behaviour was not acceptable, that he would have to shop and pay for food like the rest of us.

I used to work with a person like this...I remember on one occasion, she ran out of paper clips.  Instead of walking across the room to the supply cabinet to see if we had any more (which we did), she simply called the office supply company to deliver some more.  I could only guess that she'd been so coddled throughout her life that she wasn't used to doing for herself.
*sniff* Is this the smell of burning martyr? Maybe she doesn't care about the place looking tidy or the garden. You do and you do something about it. Don't think she benefits from your devotion to duty, she probably doesn't think about it. Perhaps the new Pope will canonise you...
Did you ever set any house rules or minimum standards? If not, it sounds like you ought to, with appropriate sanctions....also private rooms should be excluded but there should rues about shared facilities
why not club together and get a cleaner in? Once she realises how much it costs to keep a house clean, she might chip in and help with the housework to save money!

if she doesn't care then nothing you do will change her, if you can't stand it ask her to move out.

I tried the leave everything filthy option with my house mates once, i used paper plates and never cleaned anything - it stayed like that for 12 months and then we got infested with mice... which we then poisoned but everyone was too lazy to pick them up so we got infested by maggots and flies, which everyone was too lazy to open a window and let out... etc
