I've just moved a vase of lilies, and the orange pollen has gone all over a canvas print on the wall.
I haven't attempted to remove it yet, as I don't know what to you so it doesn't smudge... wet or dry cloth?
Also, to stop this from happening again, is it ok to snip out the stalks which hold the pollen?
You could try covering the pollen stains with Sellotape and peeling off gently - this has worked for me on wallpaper with no damage.
My DiL always cuts out the pollen stamens (think they're called) before she arranges the flowers.
Ah, that's a good idea. I'll give that a go and see how it works. Thanks.
They're my favorite flowers, but I never usually buy them because of the blasted pollen going everywhere. Will cut them off in future!
Ta... :)
I know the secret - having worked as a Receptionist where there were always displays of lilies and other flowers - get a length of sellotape, wrap it backwards round the fingers of your hand (sticky side up) and dab the pollen off (don't rub) you will find the pollen just lifts off onto the sellotape - magic! Never try to wipe it off with anything else as its a dye!
and Yes - some florists tell you to cut the stamens with pollen off but I think it spoils the look of the lilies. Did you know they are poisonous to cats?
I have often managed to get lily pollen on clothing and walls, I find the best way is to make sure it stays dry, never try to sponge it away!........I just use a paint brush and brush it off, it goes without a trace usually............good luck with it!....
Thanks for the answers. It came off with sellotape, although it has left a very slight orange stain. It's on a similar colored background though, so it's not noticeable.
Thanks very much :)
