Venetian Blinds

What is the best way to wash venetian blinds, they are desperate for a wash and the sister in law said to do it in a bath with a scoop of washing powder but the mother in law said this will ruin them!

Does anyone on here have a method they have had success with!

what are they made of? If they are plastic slats, then yes, I'd bung 'em in the bath.

if using the bath, be careful as they can scratch the bath^s surface.

they are metal, she reckons the cords that control the slats will be ruined if they get wet!

On another note my new flat has vertical blinds that i would like cleaned also, how do you do that, the all knowing mother in law asys you cant wash them!
