The pros and cons of wool and silk quilts

I am thinking of replacing my quilt with either a wool one or a silk one. I'll be getting a four season version - two quilts that pop together for maximum warmth, or can be used separately at other times of the year.
Does anyone have experience of them? Is even a lightweight wool filled quilt too warm for summer, and a high tog silk one too cool for winter? I tried asking in John Lewis, but the member of staff clearly did not know.

I bought a silk-filled one on a friend's advice. To be quite honest, I am disappointed as I don't see much difference between it and the non-silk one I used before.
It certainly is no warmer on cool nights.

The only real advantage of a silk - filled quilt is that it is totally anti-allergenic.

Try a feather filled one. I love mine, it's just so warm and cosy yet so light. If you've a John Lewis near you pop in and ask their advice. It doesn't mean you have to buy it from them.

Thanks. I did ask for advice in John Lewis. I don't want a feather one. Maybe someone else will comment who has a wool one. Interesting that you don't feel that impressed by the silk one, AnneMollie.
