Hi sasskins...Congratulations on being the declared winner of this competition.!!
My entry is now obviously too late for any consideration. :-) Nevertheless I will tell you of the action I took when my local town centre was being 'pedestrianised'....I rehashed a hymn into a secular song and it was published in the 'Herald of Wales'. The proposed ancient looking 'sculpture' outside of Marks & Spencers was never built and the cobbled stones have now been removed. Also the 'distressed looking' seats have gone and the angled topped posts removed.
All things trite and bawdiful,
All features grate and pall;
All unwise and blunderful,
The council planned them all.
Each purple painted planter,
All rusting rutted seats;
The patchy patterned pavements,
And clumpy cobbled streets.
(Chorus)...All things trite...etc.
The posts to clobber children,
The buses buzzing by;
All perplex the poor pedestrians,
Who gaze and wonder why !.
(Chorus)
A new archaic archway,
Alongside M & S;
Supported by nude statues,
Re-creating Romanesque.
(Chorus)
Ron.
