Fixing Tension Rods on UPVC

I've just had my windows replaced and now have a problem fixing my net curtains. I've bought tension rods, but the windows are so wide they bow in the middle and the plastic hook doesn't look as though it will remain for long. Surely there must be an easier way? Any help would be appreciated.

What sort of 'rod' are you using now?

When we put our nets up we used extra supports in the middle and after the nets were up just hooked them over them. We used the extending rods mind and not the tension ones you say you have used. The only way to get those to stick would be to drill a hole into the upvc frames.

Cetti, I'm no expert on curtains, I tend to treat uPVC windows in much the same way as timber ones. Just drill a small (3mm) hole and use a self-tapping screw.

Thank you for all your answers. I've been absent from AB for 3 years and not sure how things works any more, so would appreciate any help.

The window width is just over 7ft (don't ask me cms!) and on advice bought 'Twist n Fix' rods. I'm sure they are simple but when my son fixed both ends in place the middle bowed, so bought self adhesive hooks. Trouble is with the extra bulk they didn't fit too well in the hooks - and the whole lot fell down!

I would really like to go back to the simple wire, but how - as I don't want any holes in my lovely new windows?

Take the self adhesive stuff off the hooks and wipe clean with bit of white spirit also wipe the window with it where you are going to put the hooks. Then put a dab of super glue on the hooks and put them where you want them to go, hold in place for 10 seconds or so, leave for couple of hours and then you should be ok to put nets up. If you don't want to do that then do as The Builder says this works fine.

Would it not be possible to fix a wooden batten (1½in. x 1in. or so) to the underside of the window opening, and close up to the frame, then screw suitable fixings to that?

i just drill holes and put traditional hooks in

I would mark you all as Best Answer if I could, but my son has just used theshedman's method and wiped all with spirit and added super glue ....... I've also swopped the tension rods for the original wire, so we will see. Do his room first, just in case the whole lot pings down again in the middle of the night!
