Regretting removal of Lawson cypresses on two sides of back garden (both of which have 6ft fences in place).
Any suggestions for tall shrubs which won't spread too far into garden space?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.grow climbers up the fences rather than planting a collection of shrubs in front... jasmines, roses, campsis, solanums, passionflowers, and maybe something edible like a kiwi fruit with clematis to scramble between add shriubs that while not climbers can be trained like pyracantha, winter jasmine and chaenomeles for all year changes and colour
What about a couple of small trees eg Acer, Hornbeam interspersed with some faster growing and colourful Cclematis Montana to cover the fence?
