Foxgloves are poisonous if eaten.  They contain digitalis which affects the heart.  I recall reading of a case recently where someone committed suicide by eating 5 foxglove leaves.  The poison does not escape from the living plant and infect other plants nearby so the only danger is if you pick the foxglove leaves along with the lettuce and eat them.
