Smear Free House Windows
39 Answers
I don't know whether I misheard a statement that adding dishwasher Finish to the window cleaning water results in a smear free finish. Besides the normal additions i.e. meths, vinegar, and wiping off with newspaper, has anyone heard of using Finish.
The windows are K Glass and are the worst windows to clean after forty years of smear free success.

Oldm, if you use just water, with or without a spot of washing up liquid, and SCRIMS, you will never have a smeary window. Wipe with wet scrim and dry off with a dry scrim. Once bought they will last you for years. And they don't scratch your window like newspapers.

Get an old spray bottle and fill it with very dilute washing up liquid , like 1/2 a teaspoon in a gallon of water. Spray windows and polish off with old crumpled up newspaper . Never fails, very cheap, perfect windows, no smears.
As soon as the newspaper gets wet just use another lot so the windows are never allowed to dry on their own but polished dry. I clean windows in a large community centre and this is how I do, it tried everything but this is simply unbeatable. You just need to be generous with the old newspaper , it just goes in the recycle bin afterwards so very 'green' and also virtually free .

Ladybirder,Glass is far far harder than newspaper , unless there was some sand or grit of some type on the newspaper it is impossible for paper to scratch glass.
So the scratches in your windows could not have been caused by newspaper.
oldmisery, Finish is just a type of detergent as washing up liquid is

Hi TOWIE, I read your post to my OH, saying I liked the sound of that little gadget.
He popped out this morning to get some cabling for our wildlife box, and returned with the cabling and with a Karcher thingy too! Said he'd bought me a little present (bless). Can't wait to get it charged up and have a go with it. It's flashing at me as we speak. :o)

I've got a Karcher window thingy too. Had it for a while now and it's been brilliant for cleaning up the condensation on the bedroom windows every morning, much better than a squeegee and sopping wet towels. Also last one in the shower (usually me) uses it on the tiles and screen, again it's much better than the squeegee which left water in the grouting that ran down and left water marks. It may have been rather expensive but I use it at least twice everyday and it does a much better and quicker job than the alternatives.
