I'm considering getting a mini freezer but don't really have anywhere to keep it in the kitchen.
I was thinking I could tuck it down the side of the setee in the conservatory but it get's pretty hot in there through the day, especially with the recent weather. Would the heat cause problems for the freezer or would it be ok?
There is a small vent in the roof of it although I don't think it's very effective. I could ask my brother if he could make any improvements on that (that's his line of work) but being a rented house I couldn't really add anything extra.
I'm also going to get some bamboo blinds but I think I'll only be able to get them for the side windows and its the front windows that are facing the sun.
I fixed cream cotton sails into the ceiling of a conservatory made a big difference used the cheapest fabric I could find made eyelet holes and used cord to tie to rings in the ceiling bar and side frames
I might do that just to make it look nice anyway, good idea. Thanks!
Think I'll need to try and create a similar thing for the front windows as that's where most of the heat comes in. I'm just reluctant to start putting knew holes in the PVC frames as it's not as easy to patch them up later on.
Thanks for the suggestion Builder but the conservatory covers the entire width of the back of the house. I've got power in the cons. but I'd need to make a hole through to the conservatory to access it. The hole cons is just glass and the PVC frames, no brickwork.
A small chest freezer (ooh matron) would be much more efficient in a warm/hot location - and, when you open it to get something out, all the cold air won't just fall out of the door.
Are you sure ? Most of the time the door is closed and the freezer is trying to push heat out into the warmer surrounding air so the cooler the air outside the easier and thus more efficient that is.
(I'd have thought the short time when the door was open wouldn't have such a dramatic efficiency affect, and what affect there is temperature is more likely to rise rapidly if the outside is warm, since there is a larger differential to encourage heat exchange.)
All the chest freezers I've seen are too big for what I want. Partly because I don't want too much freezer space that I'll just fill up with crap and partly because there isn't much space for anything too big in the conservatory (or anywhere else).
Ah, you may well be right, but I suspect the difference is minimal. Personally I prefer the upright as it is easier to get to things behind others than it is to get to things below others.
