The rubber belt has gone on my Dyson. They sell them on their site but I begrudge paying £3 p+p for what is nothing more than a rubber band.

Does anyone know if ordinary repair shops sell Dyson spares or do 'have' to buy them from Dyson?

I've bought Dyson belts before from a shop in town, no problem.
The most economical repair to a Dyson is to scrap it and buy a Sebo...
I mean belts to fit a Dyson, they weren't made by Dyson.

This one isn't old enough to justify buying a new one...especially when the belt costs just over £5

Cheers D9...I take a drive to the nearest one tomorrow.
A[pologies for flippancy - just been on the Updated Site Rules thread - bends your mind!

These look cheap -

Seriously, though, we've had a Sebo for 10 years and it has never given any trouble. It's far more powerful than Dyson, having 2 separate motors for the suction and the brushes. And it has no belts...

That's okay :-)

I think I'll invest in a new hoover when my sons have learnt not to hoover up screws!!!

The Dyson ball is tempting. The upright, which I have, is just too bulky and heavy.

Sebo looks cool...
That's where the Sebo falls down, then - it weighs a ton!

Do they have long hoses and cords? With the dyson the hose is long enough to do top to bottom.
We bought an industrial version, which has an extraordinarily long cord. The extension hose will reach from top to bottom of the stairs.

Good...I'll look into those then. Might have to do a bit of flirting, wear low cut tops, and drop lots of hints :-)
This is the model - hope the Amazon link works

It says 'lightweight' lol
The thing on the front is a short hose for the crevice nozzle or extension hose. The suction automatically transfers to it when you take hold of it.
Yes, it says 8 kilograms, but ours must be the solid concrete model. All the best if you get one!
I love our Dyson.

It must be 15 years old, and has never given a problem.

I wouldn't want Subo in my house anyway.

Do you have kids that hoover up screws, hopkirk?
I use espares quite a lot and reccomend them
My friend has a Sebo and if you have a bad back don't even consider buying one - they weigh an absolute ton!
