NHBC standards for fencing
3 Answers
Does anyone know what the NHBC guide lines are for fence posts? We had a fence put up by the builders of our house almost 3 years ago and the fence posts have now moved because they were not concreted into ground. The builders say they are not responsible for repairing because it was done to NHBC standards but I can't find out what those standards are.

They're fine in the right circumstances, but can move out of place. At one time you could have a look at the NHBC Standards, but now, they want you to buy them :o(
I doubt if there's any NHBC cover for this anyway. I'm afraid it's going to be down to the "goodwill" of your builders. Oh dear :o(
It surely wouldn't take a lot on their part to put it right.

NHBC would not be concerned about how the post are put in....they would be concerned however if boards were fixed at the bottom of the posts and they were being used as a means of retaining 2 different levels, no matter how small the difference in levels are, this is not allowed.......the builders saying "it was done to NHBC standards" is a fob off to be honest.....
Thanks for the responses. They have simply dug a 10inch deep hole in soft top soil, put in a 6ft high timber post and attached 6ft x6ft fencing panels. Doesn't take a genius to work out that the fence is too heavy. The boundary fence was not put up until 12 months after we moved in and even then it was done under protest by the builder who claimed a fence between 3 gardens on 3 different levels was unnecessary. The fencing contractors were on site for 3 days but the builders claim they have no records. They claim it was installed to NHBC standards. Says a lot!
