pop up waste not popping up!

I have pop up wastes on my sinks, on the one in the bathroom, when you push it down to close the sink it's fine, when you press again to release the water it doesn't do anything. You need to get your fingers under it and click it up a bit and then push down and then it pops up fine.

I presume it just needs adjusting but don't want to get the plumber back just for that and I can't see how do do anything with it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

TIA.

As it's a bathroom basin, Annie, it's most probably clogged up with hair and other gunk. First of all, try unscrewing the plug (anti-clockwise) . You should be able to do it when it's popped up.
If it's the right type, give the moving parts a good clean.

I don't think so builder, it's new and has done this since a few days after it was fitted, I just didn't think it worth getting the plumber back - especially as I rarely use the main bathroom and it's the kids that have to deal with it......but we are having visitors soon and don't fancy having to explain the oddities of our plumbing :)
I forgot to mention ............. if it's not bunged up, then simply screwing the plug up or down should adjust it to the right working height

fab thanks, I'll give it a go after the scout run :) - righty tighty will it be?
if it's only a few days, you should be able to ask him to sort it out; but give it a spin, they're usually screw-in things as The Builder says.
That's it lefty should raise the plug............. that may be enough.
or get a scout to do it for a bob

jno - it happened only a couple of days after it was done....but that was 6 months ago! Perfectly happy with everything else so there has been no reason to get him back. ...and considering we had the bathroom, en-suite and toilet all replaced, that is quite an achievement I think - we were very pleased! He doesn't live that local so I'd feel bad about getting him back to do that - anyway just away to try turning it about :)

lol bob a job indeed!

all fixed - pop down - pop up - very satisfying - thank you very much :)
Haha .......... good news, Annie. I just wish everything were so simple :o)
It happened to us. Do as The Builder says, unscrew it & give it a good clean then apply Silicon Grease ( obtainable from good builder's merchants ) before you put it back.
