if ive got wild mice in my garden will i get rats as well as the council rodent dept say's i wont

If field mice come into your garden, rats won't come for the field-mice. But they might come for the same reason the mice come. Are there scraps in the garden which the mice eat ? Do you leave food for birds ? Just make sure there is nothing in your garden in the way of food which might attract either mice or rats.
No, one doesn't follow the other.
I have shrews and field mice (also moles) in my garden and have never seen a rat and I hope I never do.
