cleaning light bulbs

What is the "Best" way to clean light bulbs. Is it ok to use water or is there a liquid that wont damage them

Just a wipe with a damp cloth when they're cold will do it MrsL.

I have never cleaned a light bulb as such. I have never thought about it. But I wouldn't use water or liquid under any circumstances.

Slightly damp cloth, never ever use water .

Baby wipes - I use baby wipes for everything (but can honestly say the thought of cleaning lightbulbs has never entered my head).

I thought that but I have never found the need before to try cleaning them as they were never there that long, but now with the new longer life bulbs i can see them slightly cloudy with a build up of smoke layer. In these wintry dull days they dont look as bright as they should be. It's not that I am desperate just for something to do.!

Mrs LB - you need to go into chatterbank and then you won't have the time to think about cleaning light bulbs, x

Just remember that many bulbs, when purchased, come with a warning to avoid touching the glass with bare hands.

I dont take the bulbs out, i clean the top of them while their still in the lamp shades. Do mine about once a year while spring cleaning.
I dont attempt the wall lights --much too fragile for me--he's job!
