Replacing Normal Recessed Celining Lights With Led Ones

My kitchen has 8 240v recessed ceiling lights, which use 40 Watt Screw type bulbs. I'm not sure what the hole size is, but total diameter is 125mm (5"). I'd like to replace with more efficient LED ones. Does anyone know if this is straightforward. I've looked online but many LED ceiling lights look much smaller in diameter. A friend has told me he thinks there are some available called "converters" which allow smaller LED lights to fit the same "cut-out" as the existing lights. Again any help on this is appreciated.

Would direct replacement bulbs be an option for you?

No need to replace the lampholders normally. Chuck has it right. Just replace the bulbs.

Many thanks to Chuck/The Builder. Had no idea it could be this easy. I have similar lights in a bedroom, though this has 50W Halogen type bulbs (that get very hot, but I guess there are LED equivalents for those too.

I may still need to change the complete fittings in the Kitchen as the existing ones are a bit tatty (brass with paint splashes!!). Recently had new kitchen and satin aluminium finish would look good. Thank you
The new fittings will be about 68mm dia so you may have some patching to do....or you could use the halo rings/ converters...these fit onto the new fittings and are up to 125mm dia so may cover the old holes.
This is a straight swap job. Take a look here, http://www.wholesaleledlights.co.uk/led-light-bulbs/e27-screw-cap.html
