Why don't some plastic items dry in the dishwasher?

Some dishwasher manufacturers indicate that plastic (dishwasher safe) items may not dry well because they don't retain heat since they are quite thin.  Since they don't retain heat they don't evaporate water all that well and can remain damp or even have spots of standing water left after the drying cycle...
