Anyone Used Wall Transfers

I'm starting to re-think the wallpaper thing mainly because I'll have to pay someone to do it and then the extra hassle of removing it whenever I move out so I've been looking at wall transfers, like this sort of thing.

Has anyone else used these? Are they easy to apply and do they look good?

I saw another site that had some Banksy ones. I love Banksy art sooooo much, my house is full of his pictures. But you'd need a big room for them to look any good in.

My son's room has a HUGE Super Mario on the wall!

You can either get them as stickers, which you literally just peel off and stick to the walls, or decals, which are a bit trickier but have a better finish.

If you go down the sticker option, then be sure to make sure the wall is super-clean beforehand and have a sponge at the ready to get rid of any bubbles.

With the decals, you peel off a backing paper, put it where you want it (if it's large you'll need to use some masking tape to hold it there) and then use something like a credit card to rub over the design and transfer it onto the wall.
The first one I did I screwed it up completely and it had to go in the bin. Just make sure you thoroughly rub over every area, or as you pull the paper off, some it will still be stuck and will rip away from the stuff that's transferred onto the wall.

Oh god, I'm useless at this stuff. I worked in Clarks once and had to do the window displays. They always looked crap because I could never apply the window stickers without getting bloody bubbles!

But they definitely seem a better option than papering.

Just take your time with it. I would definitely go for a decal that you transfer, rather than a sticker, as the finish really is so much better.

I like a bit of wallpaper, but I do agree it's far more hassle!

I really want wallpaper but it's a rented house and probably a waste of money and effort.

There used to be patterned paint-rollers. Don't know if you can still get them, but they used to work like this :
Paint the wall with background colour, then run the roller up in even stripes in a different colour. You could get patterns of all sorts of things - abstracts, flowers, geometrics, etc. Looks quite like wallpaper. Then when you get tired of the pattern, ( or have to give the flat back ) just paint over it all.

Cheaper, quicker and less hassle to paint the walls...

EB, I rent and have wallpapered in three of the rooms.
Yes it's a bit frustrating that it is "a waste of money" but it does look lovely. As long as you keep it 'nice' then I can't see why you would have to remove it if and when you left the property.

My daughter has those in her bedroom triggerhippy. Not such a skoosh getting them off to redecorate we're finding. :(

They're quite sharp when it comes to peeling them off.
I've had a couple go under the nail. Ouch!

I'm going to be redecorating my hall and landing this year and know I don't want wall paper but equally wasn't enamoured with the though of plain painted walls.

I will take another look at transfers when the time comes!

I have plain painted walls in a few rooms and have done some stencilling which I quiet like. Was totally unaware of the wall transfers, they sound really good

What I dislike about stencils is that the paint can sometimes bleed a bit, when you remove the stencil.
Well, unless you're a bit of a Banksy, that is :)

They can bleed a little but I went round the outline of the ones that did with the main wall colour paint MM.
