Karcher Wet N' Dry Vac?

Am trying to use Mr N's karcher, to pick up some collected water, obviously I have to remove the dust bag, but do I leave the spongey filter thing in, there is not another one to change for wet, I do not want to blow the leccy in the house. I do not want to ask him cos he'll forbid me to use it.
