Is It A Mistake To Replace My Bath For A Shower Enclosure?

I have a 3 bedroom semi and am about to remove the bath and replace it with a shower enclosure.
Is this a mistake? I'm not intending on selling right now, but would it harm the value when that day comes?

I did just that and have never regretted it. Do treat yourself to a power shower though-you deserve it.

If there was a bath there before, a bath can be put back in. We had a shower over the bath and then revamped our bathroom with a lovely quadrant shower cubicle with power shower and took the bath out. Did we miss it? No. Go fo it!

Life is way too short to base your decisions on retail value if you are not going to sell in the foreseeable future. I think as well that as water metering bites, the "must have a bath in the bathroom" attitude will change markedly. I never ever bath now, I agree about a power shower though, even though it uses a bit more water, they are wonderful.

I haven't had a bath for, perhaps 6 years, but would I get rid of it, no. It's a known fact that a house will sell easier if it has a bath.

It's fine if you are wanting it to live there yourself. However when it comes to selling there are folk, particularly young parents, who may dismiss properties without a bath. But you can't please everyone, some may prefer no bath. It only harms value if you feel you need to reduce to get an offer, I don'r think it is automatic.

A 3 bed house is a family house and families with small children want baths. I think you would be seriously limiting your market and possibly even lowering the value if you removed it altogether.

It's not difficult to put a bath back in and there's obviously room. Make life easier for yourself today and don't worry about tomorrow.

Just to add, I agree with woofy, the way utilities bills are rising, baths will be a thing of the past in the not too distant future.

We had our bath taken out and converted to a wet room with double shower, we do miss the bath sometimes, we are currently trying to sell the house, there doesn't seem to be much of an issue over not having a bath, it could be put back if required. We still cant sell the house though!!

It might be a bit easier to sell if it had a bath. In my last house there was a big bath with a proper shower screen and power shower, which was perfect. Nothing worse than a clammy cold shower curtain round a bath - yuck! But if you're not intending to move, then just go for what suits you best.

Why not just put a shower in over the bath. That way, you have the best of both worlds.

We took our bath out becauseI was having difficulty getting in and out of it due to arthritis. We aren't thinking of selling, but if we did I wouldn't go to the expense of putting it back.

A double shower with half doors (they just come to below the waist) with curtains above solve both of those problems :-)

Took my bath out a few years ago and replaced it with a large walk in shower. Boy was I glad when a couple of years later I had two hip replacements. Would never have managed with a bath and have never missed it. Your comfort comes first.

Your house, your choice, We moved recently, have a purpose built wetroom downstairs, and had the two first floor bathrooms converted to shower rooms, far easier to use.

I agree with those that say you should go for it! You live in the house right now, so it's important that it suits your needs. You could easily put a bath back in if you decided to sell in future.

My mother is currently looking for a new house and she's not been put off by bathrooms with just a walk in shower.

Is it possible to have both ?, we have a power shower over the bath.
My wife and I seldom use the bath but when the grandkids ( 2 & 3 years old)come over they have a bath.
But occasionaly there are times when a hot soak in the bath is just what you need.
