I know em. I'm pretty sure it has 7 letters and was ginseng...I could be wrong as my memory isn't what it used to be !

nor mine, however don't do the times, but wondered if it is 6 letters could have been ginger, it's a root that has medicinal properties...

Sorted it I had thrum instead of twang for noise from a plucked string.
