I've recently discovered the vegetable peeler and I can't believe how blimmin great they are! Saves so much time, don't get cramp in my hand from using a knife, and much less waste.
I'm also eating loads of veg now, as I just want to peel with it. Not sure how I've gone all these years with not knowing about it... :-/

What kitchen 'gadgets' could you not do without?

the microwave oven
veg peeler as well.
My hand blender-don't know what I'd do without it. And my slow cooker...or is that too big to be a gadget?

Microwave oven is not really a gadget. You'll have to think of something else... :)

See I'm not the only one who thinks the basic veg peeler is absolutely brilliant!

Slow cooker is too big to be a gadget, yes :-)
Hand blender is a good one though. I often think one would be good for getting mash super smooth.
Unsure what qualifies as a gadget. My suspicion is that if you can't do without it, it's a basic tool. If it lies in the drawer unused, it is a possible gadget. A peeler, if you want to peel veg, is definitely a basic tool. Although if honest I have to say I tend to scrub potatoes and rarely peel anything these days.

It's not a basic tool. A basic tool for peeling would be a knife.

Stop being picky :-)

I just had to peel a whole bag of tiny little new potatoes, after realising I didn't have any 'proper' ones to mash. Would have been a nightmare with a knife.

I have one of those vegetable peeler but only find it useful only for peeling carrots sometimes, usually I cook carrots unpeeled. I use a knife for cleaning/peeling everything else.
If I had a family to peel for-I'd want a catering potato peeler.....potatoes(or carrots) done in seconds-and no hands! whoop!
I often think I'd like a decent coffee maker. But if I ever get one it won't be a pod one. I hate the idea of being tied in to a particular manufacturer's consumables. One needs to shove the bean of choice in, and let it get on with it.
Potato ricer, wire racks, magic whisk, tongs, Bamix, veg peeler and loads more! lol

What? A no-hands-needed peeler? That *is* impressive.

I never used to bother peeling carrots, just chopped the ends off. Now I've got a peeler, there's no stopping me!

My Bosch Dishwasher. It sits in the cupboard out of sight. Put the dishes in and go to sleep, its like little elves have visited during the night and done your washing up for you.
brilliant!

Potato ricer? (heads to Google)

Old-Geezer, yeah that puts me off too. The coffee is nice, but I don't like the idea of only being able to use one particular brand.

as one with pasta ^, stick blender and slow cooker
Potato ricer means lump-free mash. I was trained to pass it through a drum-seive....life's too short! ;)

Vodka, I thought that said 'wine racks' :P
Lol who has wine long enough to store on a rack??

Noth, great answer! How could I forget my trusty dishwasher. I don't use it every time, as I quite like having my hands in a hot bowl of soapy water, but it's great when I've got a full house for dinner.
Merciasounds would've..who remembers her?
