when a carpet has had a chair on it for a few weeks it leaves a pot hole in the carpet.we have just purchased a new suite and the pot holes are evident how do you erase them without lifting the carpet????

Hi davegreen,

Try rubbing an ice cube over the depressed area,this releases the fibres of the carpet that are compressed.After a couple of days you should be able to (gently) tease,by hand or with a softish brush, the pile back to it's correct position.

Alternatively you can use a steam iron... here

 I think you actually need to leave the ice cube in the dent until it melts or you can but plastic bits to put the feet of your sofa in mind you thats if they are just smallish round feet

Yes Bill is correct. You have to leave an icecube in the dent to melt and the fibres just pop back up.
