I have just had oak laminated floors laid in my lounge and hall and the chap who laid them said I needed a special cleaner for them. Is this so or can I use hot water and flash or cilit bang floor cleaning liquid?

I wouldn't use hot water. There's a risk of it 'cupping' the boards. A DAMP mop is best.
Resistance to wet may depend on the brand of laminate. I'm of the opinion some warp easier than others. I have laminate tiles in my kitchen and no problems yet. I don't use special cleaner.

Best option is to contact the manufacturer of the floor and ask them.
Hello!
It will be much easier if you just seek the services of a cleaning company. The one that I like most is Mel Cleaning. They are really good and can do all kinds of cleaning so your laminate floor will not be a problem. The are experts and there will not be any inconviences.

You are suggesting the OP gets a cleaning company in every time she wants to clean her wooden floor? I clean mine every day, so that is a ridiculous suggestion!

As above, a damp mop will be fine. I use a combination of wood floor cleaner diluted in the water, or floor wipes.
