We've had Npower out because our electicity bill went up to £140 a month (heating is solid fuel, no immersion heater). There are two of us in a 3 bedroomed terraced house, and we're out at work all day. They have left us with a meter checker which shows a reading of about half of what the meter shows and so I expect them to say the meter is faulty. We're waiting for an appointment for them to come and take the meter checker away and make a decision. However, I googled to see what others' experiences have been with Npower changing a meter and admitting fault, but it seems most cases end up in Court! I'm hoping that the ones that go through without problem just don't end up on th'internet, but I wondered - has anyone on here had a similar experience who can tell me what to expect?

I've had meter arguments in the past but I don't recall the company concerned. If their own checker shows an error then I'm unsure they'd have a leg to stand on re taking you to court. My suspicion is that the reports are from those who had problems, and those who didn't don't bother to praise.

That's what I was hoping too. Fingers crossed - and thanks OG.
my son had a problem with another company and he complained but he got no where as the company said that the bill was correct..he is now having to pay it off by installments...also you need to double check that npower arent going to charge you for checking the meter as some companys do...

i will also say that due to the long winter weve had heating bills have been a lot more expensive this year to last year...

Thanks Dollie - we have paid to have this meter checker installed, we thought it was worth it. Our electricity consumption hasn't risen lately, as I say, we are out at work all day and our heating is solid fuel. We looked at bills from last winter and that is what helped us make up our minds to pay the fee to have the meter checked. Our neighbours are in the house all day, have the same heating system and pay less than half to the same company each month. It's not the actual bill we're disputing, but the meter, the checker shows we're using around half of what the meter shows. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed X
My sis recently had a metering problem and the company were excellent, agreed without hesitation that the meter was at fault, changed it out and gave her a very fair estimated bill for the disputed period. She's not with npower though, not sure who she is with, she's in the midlands.

Phew - thanks Woofgang. Hopefully our experience will be just as good.
My daughter had a very high electric bill, and she was out all day. After extensive investigation it was found that the 2 meters, one for day and the other for the night, had been installed wrongly, thus she was using the power for storage heaters during the night and being charged top rate instead of the cheaper rate. Her bill reduced drastically when it was eventually sorted out.
