We have dismantled our large garden pond and have now installed a small kidney shape pond just for frogs and toads. Pheew hard.
A few frogs have returned and seem happy poking their noses up out of the water. Its about 4' x 2' Fibreglass.
We are feeding small tadpoles on lettuce, and fish flakes. Anything else?
The shallowest is 5" plus 12 deph.
What would you use for access for frogs to get out of pond?
Dont suppose they could climb a ladder lol.
Any one got a smallish pond with any good advice. Cheers x

p.s. The water is to the top of the rim in the pond with a 2" ledge all around.
To help them get out a turf cut and laid in the shallow end up the side to the rim should do.
Hi Pusskin....in my last ponds I built up rocks and stones on one side for frog access but in the small ones I am building now I have put a branch in each so they have something to climb.
When tadpoles develop legs I hang raw liver on string for them to eat so they don't eat each other....x
I'm assuming the 2" ledge overlaps the pond edge?

If the pond has ledges lower down for submerged baskets, then you could use one of those and plant it with say Marsh Marigold with the basket edge just above the water level.

Many thanks. brilliant answers so far!!
It goes without saying that you have installed pond weed & other oxygenating plants to keep the water sweet ?.

We have a fair bit of parrots feather in there --looks good, but will keep it under control. Also have a 3 strings of oxieniated (?) plant.
One large rock, but will sort out another, and will now also build up some small stones around the shallow parts.
Would you feed tapoles with the yolk of hard boiled eggs, like you do fish? lol.
Question Author
Believe it or not, we do have a piece of turf, just a wee bit.
But --do you reckon an imitation grass be ok, rather than grass with a lot of dirt underneath it?
