I have a gas central heating boiler in addition I have an electric water heater in my copper tank,what is the cheapest method of getting a gallon of water in the summer ?.I have to have the central heating on in the winter and assume I get hot water cheaper by gas.

To get your gallon of water, Bob, you would have to heat the whole immersion cylinder up to temperature.
Using off-peak electricity would be the cheapest.
Gas is next in cost.
Full rate electricity would be the most expensive.

For a small quantity, "under-sink" type water heaters are best. They can be either instantaneous (as with an electric shower), or the storage type (really a small immersion cylinder).

Bob,I have been thinking on the same lines as you,I have a Combi boiler and have it now on "water only" but also have an immersion tank and was wondering ,like you,if it would be cheaper to use that...of course,one has to heat up the whole tank but once you have done that,it would not take much to top it up,my father was an electrician and he told me not to just put it on when one wants hot water as then it will take longer as it will have cooled down(do have a jacket on the tank)....to keep it switched on.That was the days before central heating ..

Various types. I use one of the 10ltr ones at work. Heats up really quickly.

In the Summer I would think that a large kettle on a gas ring would be about the cheapest method????
