Getting rid of Mothball smell, outside

Have a giggle on me, folks. I mistakenly thought spreading mothballs outside my home, under a hard to reach overhang, would keep the neighborhood cats from urinating under there and would also deter the little critters that come to chow on my bird seed. The odor is overpowering me and my neighbors. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the smell (I used flakes, not balls...not easy to just pick up to remove). Thanks for not laughting too hard.
