I have just baked a ginger cake. I hate baking but I just had this idea about baking a cake. I know why I hate it so much. It's all the mess it creates.
Will not be doing that again for a long, long time.

Mess ? What mess ?
Question Author
The mess
I baked some scones on Tuesday on a whim ... there were floury footprints on the stair carpet that day!

There you go!
Why is it, that no matter how careful you are there's always flour on the kitchen floor?
Should make your cakes on the kitchen table !
Don't you have a sink? I bake most days and don't find it's a mess at all!
I used to bake a lot, Tilly....for family and friends...charity stalls...you name it I baked for it.
Then when MrG died I realised that the kitchen didn't miraculously clean itself after my baking sessions......now I don't bake. Can't be doing with mess....x
Maybe if I baked more often I wouldn't make such a mess. But then I'd probably be 2 stone heavier :(
I like a bit of mess in my kitchen, it's never 100% clean and tidy. There's a lot goes on in there - it's definitely the heart of the home. The results from baking and cooking are worth a bit of sweeping up.

That said, my daughter wants to make a chocolate cake unsupervised tomorrow and I suspect the mess from that might be beyond even my limits!
Costco do a brilliant ginger cake
Bound to make a mess if you baked it on a whim, tiffy. Get yerself a baking tin.(or whatever its called)
Question Author
Tiffy? Are you thinking of tiffin, sweety?

It's the bowl and the spoons and the gungy mess they make in the washing up bowl. Yeuk!
On a whim I made green tomato chutney last week - I ended up making it for my neighbour too, using her tomatoes.
Question Author
It is good to do things on a whim. Strike while the iron's hot.
Whim things are often more successful than preplanned stuff.
Home made is so much better than shop bought cakes though, tilly!
I wouldn't make cake, I'd eat it.
Question Author
I just gave Mr Tilly a slice of the cake. He really liked it. He even knew it was a ginger cake. There you go.

Boxy, does green tomato chutney require chopped onions? I don't do chopped onions on a whim. I have to be forced to chop an onion.
