If such a person was injured by the wire, you would (regrettably!) be legally liable. At least thats what ive been told,so dont take that as gospel.(:)
Your're right, if a little darling intruder hurts himself on your nasty wire he can sue you and is guaranteed to win. It counts as a mantrap which are illegal.
A few years ago, where I used to live, I had problems with local bad-lads using my garden as a cut-through. They would congregate in my garden and as I lived on my own, found it really quite frightening (I lived in a bungalow). The police got sick of coming out as they would scatter when the car appeared and never managed to actually get anyone. I solved the problem by putting whole milkbottles where they were coming through, I couldn't build up the fence as it wasn't mine and the owners wouldn't let me. When the first one came through he rolled onto his back and made such a noise the others scarpered. Each night I moved them around, after dark, so they were never sure where they could put their feet. The stopped coming. I later put a rockery with lots of sharp spiky rocks and planted lovely creeping plants there, I couldn't be prosecuted for that.

Indeed after having recently having had a crime prevention officer round to our house. Iwas informed that i could well be sued for the damage done to the little darlings white Kappa tracksuit he paid 8.00 for from Jezza down the stalls, by painting anti vandal paint on any fence or wall under 8 feet, even if it was on my side of the wall that is 2 feet wide. How anyone could accidently reach over a 7 foot wall and then reach another foot without actually trying to break in is beyond me. Barbed wire, electric fenceing and broken bottles are also a no go. Unless you had them before a certain year. Cant remember what year that was, but the only building with a wall round it in our town that is has and is allowed its broken milk bottles is the Manse. I was informed however that there is a new product on the market that we are allowed, and security companies know of it. Thoughh i have not been in contact with them yet. That is a new product originally made as a cat deterrant. Heavy duty plastic barbed wire. I will have to look into this a bit more. Failing that i will be planting the roses the concil use. Rosarie Delay a rambling rose, very thorny, double blooms, smells gorgeous, eco friendly. Unlike our intruders.
I've been looking into the anti-intruder paint, and from what I've read it has to be applied above shoulder high, and with warning stickers.
I've planted berberis plants all around the front of the house they have a really nice spike on them, the only problem is they seem to be taking for ever to grow. But hopefully this time next year they should be up and away, and sticking in one of the neighbours kids.
