Hi all old post i know but read the whole lot, We bought our dream plot of land in a hamlet of 25 houses, did the right thing and applied to the council paid £300 for pre planning advice for a single unit log cabin but its on a chassis and wheels so comes classed under a caravan, they have just replied to tell us the site is not within there development boundary so they will resist planning, i asked them for a map of there development boundary and they said the area has no defined development boundary , so my question was then how do you no its not in it then? no reply to that, We are gutted we love this site its just 52x180ft has residential house round three side but then a loverly view, well fenced and good access, we don't know if its worth going any further along the planning route at all, thanks all ???
It might be better to ask the planning officer what you CAN have rather than making plans for a specific log cabin on wheels.
For example, it might be that they will permit a portakabin-type structure while the rest of your refurb goes ahead.
Would think that there is a strong possibility of objections from the local residents regarding your proposed siting of a timber cabin on wheels adjacent to their property.
Hi no the locals are quite happy to help its a scruffy plot at moment and the wheels would no be visible it all gets covered in cedar wood like the cabin, it just so it keeps the caravan status, really a very eco highly insulated building that meets uk building regs and eco 2012, just wondered if getting planning under holiday use would be easier, would just be happy to use it for weekend breaks and maybe try for more planning when its been there for a while,
Councils rarely award retrospective permission & you could face a heavy fine. Owning land does not give development/dwelling rights. Best flog the building before council instruct removal at short notice.
i think it may well have been better to ask the council their view before buying the land. If the council don't want you to put anything there, you will never change their minds :(
