We lost a ridge tile off our house in the storm (house, not bungalow). Does anybody have a rough idea of the replacement cost - wondering whether it's worth involving the insurance company or just getting it done.

£50 ish max( N Ireland prices)
tho beware of cowboys-esp with people panicking with all the storm damage and holiday time--
ps only a minimum of water will enter due to the ridge tile being missing-so you could wait until the panicking from others has eased

Thanks Beejay - I know of a reliable builder but I didn't want to pester him over the holiday; I'll get on to him after the break. I actually spotted the missing tile yesterday after deliberately checking for wind damage. I was aware it wasn't overly urgent because of the roofing felt. Interestingly the tile has broken on the roof so from one side of the house you can see no damage, whilst from the other side you can see the gap and half of the tile part-way down the roof.
hi bhg- just beware the broken part doesn't blow down and split someones head

Aware of that Beejay - thanks for the warning, though The tile will fall onto our single-storey extension so no risk of injury. I have spare tiles for that and can get to it myself.
My dad had a single ridge tile blow off on xmas eve. Roofer (a very good mate) quoted me £120 + vat to put the old one back, bed down and screw down.

Thought that was quite a bit to be honest but as he said, he's got a hundred and one of these "two minute jobs" and he has to make a profit on a business which costs a lot to run.

Thanks both for your replies - the answer is just to get the builder to do it without bothering with the insurance.

Update - I was recommended a "handyman" who did the job for £60.
Bear in mind that in a house like ours (depending on how tall yours is) you could be looking at £300 for scaffolding to get onto the roof....
