If so do you understand all this stuff on Tariffs. They don't make it easy to choose the best option.

I do but have been remiss at checking for cheapest tariff. I'm sure they all make their bills are difficult to follow as they can get away with so you haven't a clue where the figures come from.

I pay online and there was a notice saying prices have gone down and giving all different examples of various tariffs, but its so difficult knowing which one is really best for me. Its not really in what I call plain English.

Whatever I choose probably won't make much difference money wise but I would like to understand what I am paying for.

Thats what I feel Old_Geezer, why not just have the best rate for everyone. It costs enough anyway.
without logging in and looking for it, I have no idea......
OK I did it, and it says

Tariff Check – We look at your last twelve months’ energy use to see if there’s a cheaper British Gas tariff for you.

so I'll let them tell me if I could have a better one - we're at present on the
Gas Online Variable May 2014 - that at the moment is cheaper than the other 2 they are offering me.
I've just had a look and there appears to be not a great deal of difference in the tariffs, they've all got a 26p per day standing charge and unit rates fluctuate by a penny or two. At the moment I think my best bet is to lock in for 1 year incase the bloody rates go up again. I'll have another look tonight and make my mind up?

Headwreck!
My British gas annual statement gives the amount we have used and tells us how much we would pay for the same use on the other tariffs. All the other tariffs are more expensive at present.

The rates are supposed to be going down----believe it if you like. But I suppose it makes sense to fix the rate for at least a year.
I recommend that you work out how much electricity and gas you use a year and go to the uswitch site to compare providers and tariffs. It will show you the British Gas tariff most suited to your usage, but it will also show you some other suppliers who are a lot cheaper. Switching suppliers is easy. If you decide not to switch, uswitch won't contact you. http://www.uswitch.com/
